Seven months of blogging and I’m very excited to bring to you my 100th post! This is my favoritist fave today.:) I appreciate all of you who join me here at my little place on the web. Heres to many more 100s of posts!
My other favorite things this week:
1. Outdoor Run PR
I pushed myself through a full five miles on an outdoor run the other day (I was pretty bored the last 1.5 miles, but kept going anyway) and ran my fastest pace yet at 9.06. I’m super proud of that, thinking how far I’ve come from a year ago when I couldn’t even jog for two minutes straight after having Emme.
It’s funny how I used to strongly dislike running outdoors because it felt so much harder, but now I love throwing it into the mix, breathing the fresh air and soaking up the season changes.
Plus, the crunch under my feet. Gotta get off the pavement for some good crunch.
4. One-On-One Time with My Boy
It’s been too long since I’ve had a “date day” with Reece. I took the opportunity this week while my mother-in-law watched Emme and it was so much fun having time with just him. No stress, no yelling, just fun. We went to a cool park and got Jamba Juice smoothies and Pirate’s Booty for lunch. I definitely need to do this more often.
3. Doing things at my kids’ pace
Maybe it’s the change in weather and doing more things outside, but the past couple weeks, I’ve been making sure to take the time to do things at my kids’ pace, not mine. It’s not always possible if we have to be somewhere, but the times I can just let them do their thing are the best.
Last week it was hiking, this week it was walking in downtown Los Gatos and my date day with Reece.
I’ve been eating these for awhile now and recently the kids have gotten hooked too. I love the name because, seriously, the first time I tried them, I thought, “Dang! Those are good!” and forced myself to stop eating them so I could have some in my oatmeal the next morning. If you like coconut–especially coconut macaroons–you will love these!
I first found them at my local produce market, but Whole Foods carries them and you can even buy them through Amazon.
So why are they are my favorites this week since I’ve been eating them for awhile? I found them in a new flavor! They now make them in Caramel Sea Salt, made with coconut sugar.
You may have seen my Instagram picture of the coconut sugar I’m trying in my coffee (which is good!) so I was intrigued. I’d probably have to do a side-by-side comparison to tell you if there was any difference in taste, but they were equally delicious as the original.
4. First Outdoor Swim of the Season
I always say I’m going to take Reece to the indoor pool at the Y in the winter, but I never do. It actually feels somewhat complicated to work in time for a swim when I want to workout while I’m there and then take the kids swimming, which means packing a lunch. Indoor swimming doesn’t interest me as much as it does Reece, so we’ve never actually done it.
Enter the summer-like weather we’ve been having, which led to me making the effort to get everything ready for an outdoor swim, which is much more appealing to me.
It wasn’t super warm at the time we went, but we had fun. It was a little challenging to have both kids in the water since Emme wanted to hangout on the steps and Reece wanted to be out further, but I’m supposed keep them both within arm’s reach.
I know as the weather gets even warmer, we’ll be doing this more and I’m looking forward to it!
5. Just Mayo
So I’ve never cared much about my mayo. Brand didn’t matter and neither did regular or low fat. Actually, I generally prefer to skip the mayo and use avocado instead.
However, the other day (same day we bought Dang Toasted Coconut Chips!), we were shopping at Whole Foods and they were sampling Just Mayo. I’ve never had plain mayo on a piece of bread and nothing else, so it felt a little strange to eat that, but it really showcased the flavor and it was really surprisingly, noticeably good.
Turns out, I was actually out of mayo at home, so I bought two bottles since they were on sale. This is the first time I’ve actually noticed a difference in the taste of my sandwich–or artichoke!–because of the mayo I was using.
What are you loving this Friday?
