This Week in Workouts

This is an exciting month, you guys. I can feel it already. August is fun because it’s still fully summer, but with the added excitement of fall and the new school year approaching. Even though the schools out here start in the middle of the month, I will enjoy summer until Labor Day weekend is over. I’m a huge fan of fall–it’s my favorite season–but summer has to end first and the waiting just makes it that much more exciting when it gets here.

I’m also still feeling pumped from BlogHer and I get to keep riding that wave through BlogFest, which I head down to LA for on my birthday. Reece starts preschool just before that, which is a whole new adventure for our family that we’re all looking forward too.

Feeling pumped for the month is good motivation for workouts too. With three days of Pilates and then two days off, I was ready for some good sweat sessions this weekend and I made that happen.

Here’s what this week looked like:

Monday: Teach Pilates
Tuesday: Teach gentle Pilates
Wednesday: Teach Pilates
Thursday: OFF (brisk walk/sometimes jog to the store and back, 2.5 miles)
Friday: OFF (moderate walk to an outdoor concert and back, 1.5 miles)
Saturday: Circuit workout with cardio blasts + 20 min HIIT stationary bike
Sunday: Run 3 miles to the grocery store and back, pushing the jogging stroller

Truth is I could have fit in real workouts Thursday and Friday, but I didn’t want to go anywhere without makeup on. That’s the sad state of my skin right now and I’m hoping the new meds clear it up soon since natural remedies haven’t worked. So what could have been a real run to the store pushing the jogging stroller turned into a walk with just enough jogging to get my heart rate up, but not enough to break a sweat.

Sad, but true.

I knew we wanted today to be a family day, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of time exercising. We also needed a few groceries to make a nice big breakfast, so I killed two birds with one stone by going for a real stroller push run with Emme to the grocery store. Now my workout is done for the day and we’ll be headed off for some family fun soon.

Enjoy your Sunday!

  • California’s early school start is slightly crazy!! I’m hoping to use the onsite gym this week, but this past week I have been fully enjoying the swimming pool (a favorite way to get exercise in) and active “rest” walking all around and carrying at times a big four year old!!! Happy Birthday Month!!

  • I’m so sorry you have to deal with adult acne! From the pictures on here, I could not tell and you look great! My husband also has had to deal with adult acne and I know it can be frustrating.

Your week in workouts looks great. I need to vary my workouts because this week I seemed to have gotten stuck doing the same thing at the gym. I want to incorporate some barre workouts or Pilates to switch it up:) my son just turned 3 and I’m in the process of looking into a preschool for him a couple days a week, part-time. It’s so hard to choose one. Happy Sunday!

    • Thank you–makeup hides it well enough for cameras. I’m hoping by putting it out there, others can see they’re not alone.

I definitely support you taking up Pilates! 🙂 It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and important for our overall fitness to change it up a bit. You can find some of my workouts on the “Love Fitness” page and I also love The Fitnessista’s Summer ShapeUp workouts.

  • I normally run outside early in the morning so I’m assuming no one sees me in my no-makeup state, but there have been times at the gym I’ve felt self conscious about my skin! In don’t have bad acne but just feel like I looks 100 times better with makeup! I’m always looking for ways to improve my skin naturally too. Skin issues really suck, sorry you’re dealing with this.

    • The gym is especially tricky for me since I work there too, so I feel extra self conscious. Running in the early morning is a good way to make it work. Until my kids start consistently sleeping til a decent hour, that won’t be a possibility for me.
