This Week in Workouts: Something to Celebrate

This week I had two things to celebrate: The Fourth of July and another week of making time for just-for-me workouts! I feel great now that it’s been a few weeks of getting in more cardio plus a day of lifting. Here’s the rundown and then I’ll get to the weekend pics:

Monday: Cardio + Strength/Flexibility – Teach Tabata + Teach PIlates
Tuesday: Cardio + Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates + Treadmill Run 2 miles
Wednesday: Strength/FlexibilityWorkout 3 w/ bicep curls & cardio bursts + Teach Pilates
Thursday: Cardio + Strength/Flexibility – Treadmill Run 30min + Stairmaster 30min + Pilates
Friday: Cardio + Strength/Flexibility  – Teach Pilates + Hybrid Bike 15 min
Saturday: OFF
Sunday: OFF

My goal is to get three cardio sessions in and as you can see, I got four in this week–yay! It was also nice to get in a full hour-long session. I used to make sure I got one long cardio session in a week, but that hasn’t happened in awhile and I miss it.

I’m still loosely following The Fitnessista’s Summer Shape Up and using her workouts for my lifting sessions. I added bicep curls and one-minute cardio bursts between each of the three rounds of Workout 3 just to get in a little extra.

I’m also following along with Blogilate’s Journey to Splits challenge, so I’ve been doing the 10 minutes of the stretches everyday.  I’ve never been able to do a split and it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, so this challenge came up at a good time. I’m doubtful (but hopeful!) I’ll be able to do a split in the end!

Now for the weekend pics!

Doug had Friday off, so we took the kids to see Inside Out, which was excellent. A bit over their heads in some parts, but they really liked it and this mama LOVED it. Then we let them loose at the park in Santana Row so they could get their wiggles out after sitting for so long.

On Saturday, we saved all of our Fourth of July festivities for evening when we met up with Ellie and Guillaume at Santa Clara’s fireworks show. Last year we wore ourselves out by participating in a morning parade along with the late fireworks, so we planned for a low-key day. Just a trip to Whole Foods with my girl for provisions for our evening.

We brought a picnic dinner to the fireworks show, making some of the recipes from the Fourth of July recipe roundup. Ellie had dessert covered as usual.

Chocolate chip cookies, blueberry ginger cakes with cream cheese icing, cherry hand pies

Somehow we managed to keep ourselves and the kids entertained for the hours of waiting until the show started.

Almost ready!

It was a great show and we all had fun, even if Emme was scared and watched the first few minutes covering her eyes. She eventually enjoyed the fireworks, but I thought it was pretty funny that she covered her eyes and not her ears.

Don’t forget there’s still a few more days to enter my summer skin care giveaway! There’s a bunch of great products you can win!

How did you celebrate the Fourth of July
