This Week in Workouts: No More Crazies

Hey all–hope you all had a good weekend! We had a cozy, rainy one here that was much more relaxing than the rest of the week.

Doug took Friday off so I could get a bit of a break since I was going a little crazy thanks to our hectic week.

We met up for a bit to pick out our new bathroom vanity, but other than that I was on my own, mostly running errands. If you have kids, you know that running errands without them is pretty much a vacation.

I also enjoyed a leisurely lunch out at FreeBirds and a coffee from Philz.

That salad gives Chipotle a run for their money and Philz chai tea with fresh mint and cardamom was perfect for the weather. (You may have seen these pictures before over on Instagram, but if you haven’t, come follow me!)

We had some fun on Saturday, taking the kids to a movie, which was Emme’s first one in a theater. As rambunctious as she is, rarely sitting through a whole movie at home, we weren’t sure how she’d do, but she sat still and quiet the whole time, happily munching on popcorn and M&Ms.

Other than that, it was a pretty laid back weekend. The only other thing of note is that we didn’t have any meat in the house for dinner Sunday night, so we cooked up some eggs and had them dinner-style over a mix of roasted regular and sweet potatoes with a side of green beans and broccolini. The kids were a little surprised to see eggs on their plates for dinner!

Those kids were also bouncing off the walls by the end of the weekend after so much time inside, so I’ll have to find a good way for them to release some energy with the continuing rain.

As far as workouts this past week, despite my desire to keep up with Winter Shape Up, the craziness of the week got in the way, so I pretty much did my usual thing.

Here’s what it looked like:

Monday: Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates
Tuesday: Strength/Flexibility + Cardio – Teach Pilates + 30 min steady state hybrid stationary bike
Wednesday: Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates
Thursday: Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates
Friday: Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates
Saturday: Cardio – 4 mile treadmill run (Calorie-blasting treadmill run + steady)
Sunday: Strength – BodyPump

The fun thing about the gym this weekend was that Doug joined the Y with me. He’s gone a few times as a guest, but usually sticks with cycling and at-home workouts. With the rain this weekend, he decided to get his cardio in at the gym in a cycling class. The kids thought it was fun having him there for kids club drop off/pickup and I’m looking forward to having him come more often on these rainy days.

Have a great start to your week!

Do you and your significant other go to the gym together?

How was your weekend?

  • ahhh I feel for you with the rain and the trapped inside.
    have a fantastic PILATES day.

    • Yes, it so does! No more cozy rainy days inside with tea and movies. Although, my kids are getting closer to the age of being able to do that. 🙂

  • What a cute pic of the kiddos at the movie 🙂

My husband will run and do SurfSet classes with me sometimes. I love it!

  • Sounds like a nice weekend. The kids and I love eggs for dinner, but my husband isn’t a fan. Luckily I usually have hotdogs in the freezer or canned tuna fish for him.

Neither of us actually go to a gym. He prefers to bike, I mostly run. We have a treadmill and an exercise bike for when we can’t get outside, so I’ve never joined.

  • Glad the weekend was better! Which movie did the kids watch? I still need to take my 3 yr old for the first time. I think he will probably be able to finally sit still lol. Looked like a good week of workouts. My husband just joined my gym and I’m so happy about it.

  • First of all, you’ve got me missing the Bay Area. Philz Coffee. I could cry.

Secondly, I love that your daughter took your photo. I can’t wait for my toddler to be able to do that. I’m too afraid to see if he could use my phone to take a picture, but I should give it a try.

When we were living in the Bay Area and had one kid, my husband would meet up with us at the Y after his work day and then we would all grab a post-workout meal together. Now that we’ve got two and we’re no longer living in California, we’ve yet to join a gym where we live now.

    • Philz just opened a new one in Los Gatos-yay! My almost 5-year-old son took the picture, actually, not my 2-year-old daughter. 🙂 My son has gotten much better at picture taking over the past year, but if you look at our anniversary post from last February, you’ll see he still needed some practice with not cutting off our heads!

Have you checked to see if you have a Y near you now? They usually take the babies pretty young, so it makes it a lot easier to workout than other gyms!
