I hear it’s snowing in some parts of the country today. Like, a lot. So , I’ll try to keep all talk of our gorgeous 70-something degree weather at a minimum for this post. Maybe I shouldn’t even mention that we spent all of Saturday enjoying the gorgeous sunshine in our t-shirts near the ocean. Except, since this is my workout and weekend wrap up, how can I not?
Saturday was supposed to be my big cardio day, however, as I was about to head out the door, I decided to glance at the weather app on my phone. Once I saw that it was going to be even warmer at the beach than here in Silicon Valley, there was no way I was going to spend an hour of my time indoors. I quickly packed up some extra snacks and changes of clothes for the kids, loaded us up and down to Monterey we headed.
Usually we head over to the Santa Cruz area for a beach day, but Monterey was calling to me, so we drove the 45 minutes extra to get there.
We actually didn’t spend much time at all on any beach itself, but we did spend it all outside, first in the super fun Dennis the Menace playground and then took a stroll through the Whale Festival.
You may not know this about me, but whales terrify me. They are the ugliest, scariest looking things I could possibly imagine and being in the water with one is what my nightmares are made of, *shudder*. So it’s pretty hilarious that my kids enjoyed playing inside this massive blow up whale.
There were far too many whale pictures on display than I was comfortable with, but I tried to focus on the cute sea otter pictures instead.
We ended the day with a drive along the amazingly beautiful coast, stopping to check out some tide pools as the sun was setting.
I didn’t miss the cardio at all.
I did, however, miss it on Sunday when all I had time for was BodyPump since I had errands to run and wanted to actually shower before an afternoon birthday party with Reece’s preschool friend. Ah well, I was craving the weight lifting more, so no biggie.
Here’s what my workout week looked like:
Monday: Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates
Tuesday: Strength/Flexibility + Cardio- Teach Pilates + Treadmill Cardio Blast
Wednesday: Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates
Thursday: Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates
Friday: Strength/Flexibility – Teach Pilates
Sunday: Strength – BodyPump
So, I got a couple of other things besides just teaching Pilates in last week, but not too much.
This week I’m looking forward to incorporating the workouts from Fitnessista’s Winter Shape Up! It’s an excellent plan to follow if you’re looking to shake up your workout routine and easy to follow along with at home, as long as you have a couple weights. It’s actually what I used to kickstart my post-pregnancy fitness routine after I had Emme!
